CHARLOTTESVILLE – The second-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team will open its 2012 home schedule this weekend by hosting three top-15 opponents at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers host No. 15 Texas in the home opener on Friday at 6 p.m., No. 5 Florida on Saturday at 1 p.m. and No. 11 Texas A&M on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Admission to all home men’s and women’s tennis matches is free. Fans will receive shakers (while supplies last) for Friday’s match against Texas. Saturday’s match against Florida is Virginia’s ITA Campus Kids Day. Kids are encouraged to bring their rackets for a pre-match clinic beginning at 11:30 a.m., and there will be face-painting beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The Cavaliers (1-0) enter the season with a school-record 89-match winning streak, dating back to 2006. Virginia has lost just once indoors in six previous seasons at the Boyd Tinsley Courts, a 4-3 loss to Texas in 2006.

Last week the Longhorns (4-0), Gators (3-0) and Aggies (4-0) all qualified for the 2012 ITA National Team Indoors and will make another trip to Charlottesville later in the month for that event.

Virginia and Texas met last year in Austin with the Cavaliers winning 5-2. Virginia and Texas A&M haven’t met since a 6-1 Cavalier victory at the Boyd Tinsley Courts in 2006. Virginia and Florida haven’t met since 1991.

Live stats for all three matches will be available at VirginiaSports.com.
