Charlottesville, VA – Virginia women’s golf coach Kim Lewellen announced today Alexandra Hershberger will join the Cavalier golf team this fall. A native of Basking Ridge, N.J., Hershberger was the runner-up at the 2011 New Jersey Golf Association’s Women’s Match Play Championship.

She was one of 24 female junior golfers selected in October for this year’s Hewlett Packard Scholastic American Junior Golf Association All-American team.

During her junior golf career, Hershberger has recorded several high finishes at AJGA events. She placed second a the Deutsch Bank Partners Shoot-Out in 2011 and was fourth at the Lessing’s Classic in the same year. A first-team all-state golfer as a junior at Ridge High School, she won the New Jersey State Golf Association’s Junior Girl Championship in 2010.

Last spring Hershberger helped Ridge High School to the state championship in only the program’s third year of existence. In May she was named Golfweek’s junior of the week after placing first at the International Junior Golf Tour’s tournament at the Hershey (Pa.) Country Club.

Hershberger has been ranked as high as No. 30 in the AJGA Polo junior golf standings, No. 43 by Golfweek and No. 98 by Junior Scoreboard.

Hershberger’s mother, Madeleine, was a member of the Swedish National Team and competed at Florida International University.
