GREENSBORO, N.C.-Former Virginia standout forward Lee Raker is the Cavaliers’ 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament Legend. The 2012 Legends, who will be honored at the ACC Tournament in March, were announced Thursday (Feb. 9) by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. The tournament is scheduled for March 8-11 in Atlanta, Ga.

The 2012 ACC Tournament Legends also include John Bagley (Boston College), Randolph Childress (Wake Forest), James Collins (Florida State), Kenny Dennard (Duke), Todd Fuller (NC State), Ron Godfrey (Miami), Malcolm Mackey (Georgia Tech), Johnny Rhodes (Maryland), Kenny Smith (North Carolina), Dale Solomon (Virginia Tech) and Sharone Wright (Clemson).

Raker lettered four times for the Cavaliers from 1978-1981. He averaged 12.8 points and 3.1 rebounds a game for his career while shooting 50.3 percent (560-1114) from the field and 78.1 percent (303-388) from the free-throw line. He scored 1,423 points during his Virginia career.

The 6-5 Raker was a second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection in 1979 when he averaged 16.5 points and 3.2 rebounds a game. He averaged in double figures in scoring each of his four seasons with the Cavaliers. Raker averaged 10.6 points a game as a freshman in 1977-78, 13.3 points a game as a junior in 1979-80 and 11.4 points a game as a senior in 1980-81.

Raker was a first-team Academic All-America selection in 1981 as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Virginia compiled an overall record of 92-32 and participated in four postseason tournaments (one NCAA, three NIT) during Raker’s time in the program. UVa won the 1980 NIT and reached the NCAA Final Four in 1981.

A native of Louisville, Ky., Raker now lives in the Boston, Mass., area.

The Legends will be honored at this year’s ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament in Atlanta at the annual ACC Basketball Legends Brunch, which will be held on Saturday, March 10, beginning at 10 a.m. Hosted by television personalities Tim Brant and Mike Hogewood, the ACC Men’s Basketball Legends Brunch will be held in the Ballroom of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel.
