CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior Briggy Imbriglia broke his own school record en route to a sixth-place finish on the 3-meter board Thursday as men’s and women’s diving events got underway at the ACC Championships.

Both the men’s and women’s divers are competing this week at the women’s conference meet at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in Christiansburg, Va.

Imbriglia finaled for the first time in his career on a springboard after squeaking into the night session with a mark of 351.30, good enough for eighth place in the preliminaries. He previously has finaled on the platform event.

“I was really proud of Briggy,” Virginia diving coach Rich MacDonald said. “He was the last diver in the competition and we knew he had to do something special to make finals. He stepped up and had a really great dive that put him one point past the ninth-place guy.”

Then in the finals, he broke his own school record with a score of 376.50 to move up two spots and finish in sixth place. He set the previous school mark earlier this year with a 373.80 in the dual meet at North Carolina.

Freshman JB Kolod made his ACC Championships debut Thursday on the 3-meter board and took 13th with a score of 335.25.

“I think the freshman jitters kind of got him a little bit but he had four really great dives,” MacDonald said. “I expect him to come back well tomorrow.”

The Cavalier men’s divers will compete in the 1-meter event Friday and the platform event Saturday as the ACC Championships continue in Christiansburg, Va.
