CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Six Virginia field hockey players were selected to the 2011 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, the league office announced Wednesday.

Senior Rachel Jennings (Macungie, Pa.), sophomores Hadley Bell (Shaker Heights, Ohio), Chloe Pendlebury (Perth, Australia) and Lane Smith (Ottawa Hills, Ohio) and freshmen Jenny Johnstone (Paisley, Scotland) and Rachel Sumfest (Lewisburg, Pa.) were each named to the squad.

To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

Jennings was named to the team for the fourth consecutive year while Bell, Johnstone, Pendlebury, Smith and Sumfest earned their first honor.

Maryland’s Harriet Tribble was selected as the ACC Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Virginia finished the 2011 campaign with an 8-12 mark.
