Moorer and Franklin Earn All-ACC Accolades

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia guard Ariana Moorer (Woodbridge, Va.) and Ataira Franklin (Bowie, Md.) earned All-ACC honors, the conference announced on Tuesday (Feb. 27). Moorer was named to the second team, while Franklin garnered honorable mention recognition.

Moorer, a senior, is the Cavaliers’ active career scoring leader with 1,194 points over her four-year career. She is UVa’s leading scorer and ranks ninth in the ACC in scoring this season, averaging 13.8 points per game and has had four 20-point performances, 26 double-digit scoring games and two double-doubles in 2011-12. As UVa’s primary ball-handler, Moorer leads Virginia and ranks 10th in the conference with 3.2 assists per game.

Moorer also stood out on the defensive end of the floor, ranking third in the conference and 39th in the nation with 2.7 steals per game. Defensively, Moorer helped Virginia limit 22 opponents to less than 60 points in 2011‐12, rank first in the conference in scoring defense (53.3 points per game) and rank fifth in the nation (second in the conference) in steals per game with 13.2 per game.

Moorer was named the ACC’s Sixth Player of the Year last season. This is her first All-ACC team honor.

Franklin, a sophomore, is UVa’s second-leading scorer at 12.1 points per game and tallied 20 double-digit scoring games, four 20 point games and one double-double in 2011-12. She is UVa’s leader in three-point field goals made (40) and adds 4.1 rebounds per game.

Franklin ranks eighth in the ACC in steals per game (2.3) and helped Virginia to one of its best defensive seasons in recent history.

Last season, Franklin was named to the ACC All-Freshmen Team.

Virginia, the sixth seed at the 2012 ACC Tournament, faces 11th-seeded Boston College on Thursday (March 1) at 8 p.m., in the first round.
