Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia women’s golf team opens the spring portion of its schedule this weekend at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The 15-team field will compete Friday, March 2 through Sunday, March 4. The tournament is named for recording artist Darius Rucker, who will perform a concert for the participants Thursday evening.

The field for the tournament includes South Carolina, Wake Forest, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Coastal Carolina, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, USC Beaufort, TCU, Arkansas, Central Florida, Alabama and Texas. Teams will tee off starting at 8:30 a.m. from the first and 10th tees Friday and Saturday and with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The Cavaliers will be paired up with Georgia and Vanderbilt during the first round and start play from the 10th tee at 9:33 a.m.

Virginia’s lineup will include freshman Briana Mao, sophomore Elizabeth Brightwell, juniors Brittany Altomare and Nicole Agnello and senior Lauren Greenlief.

Altomare led the Cavaliers in the fall with a 72.75 stroke average while Agnello was second at 75.58.

The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate is the first of two spring break tournaments for Virginia. The Cavaliers play March 9-11 at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge.
