CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior swimmer Lauren Perdue (Greenville, N.C.) will miss the upcoming NCAA Championships after recently undergoing a corrective procedure on her back. Perdue is one of 12 Cavalier women’s swimmers who qualified for the meet, which will be held March 15-18 in Auburn, Ala.

“It’s obviously a tremendous loss for our team to lose a student-athlete of Lauren’s star power and importance,” head coach Mark Bernardino said. “Her courage in battling through pain and discomfort this season has allowed our team to achieve levels of success which would not have been possible without her in our lineup. The time had come where it was necessary for this procedure to be done and it is our hope that Lauren will return stronger and healthier than ever and have the opportunity to prosper and thrive in her athletic endeavors from this point forward.”

Perdue helped the Virginia women to their fifth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship last month, where she won the 100 freestyle and was a member of UVa’s four winning relay squads. She is a 12-time All-American and was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle at the 2011 NCAA Championships.
