Charlottesville, VA – Virginia senior men’s golfer Ben Kohles has been selected Golfweek’s national player of the week. Last weekend Kohles led Virginia to a second-place finish at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. He shot 18-under 198 to set school scoring records for a 54-hole tournament and for overall score in relation to par.

It was Kohles’ second victory this spring and the seventh time he has won a title during his Cavalier career. He is the school’s all-time wins leader. Following the tournament, Kohles moved up to seventh place in the current Golfweek rankings. He is currently the highest-ranked player from the Atlantic Coat Conference in the poll.

It marks the second year in a row Kohles has been recognized by Golfweek. He was named its player of the week last spring after winning the Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii.

The two-time ACC player of the year, Kohles leads Virginia with a 70.75 stroke average. He has five top-10 finishes in seven tournaments this season.

The Cavaliers moved up to No. 24 in this week’s Golfweek poll. The team returns to action Sunday, March 25 when it travels to the Hootie @ Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Charleston, S.C.
