Charlottesville, VA – The 24th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team resumes play Sunday when it participates in the 2012 Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Awendaw, S.C. The 54-hole event runs through Tuesday at the par-72, 7,282-yard layout at Bulls Bay Golf Club.

Of the 15 teams competing, six are ranked in the Golfweek Top 50 and three are in the Golf World/Nike Top 25. No. 2 Auburn highlights the field along with No. 14 Texas A&M and No. 18 LSU, the two-time defending champion. The field also includes Kentucky, Mississippi Augusta State, host College of Charleston, Maryland, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina, Virginia, Wake Forest, Wisconsin and Wofford.

Virginia will be paired with Wake Forest and Mississippi in the first round. The Cavaliers lineup features Ben Kohles, Ben Rusch, Denny McCarthy, Bruce Woodall and Ji Soo Park.

Last year the Cavaliers tied for 10th in the 15-team field. Kohles led the Virginia contingent with an 11th-place finish at even par 213.

Kohles currently leads the Cavaliers with a 70.75 stroke average. He is ranked No. 7 in this week’s Golfweek standings.
