Athens, GA – The Virginia women’s golf team is in fifth place following the opening round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate taking place in Athens, Ga. The Cavaliers shot 1-under 287 and trail tournament leader Alabama by nine strokes.

Brittany Altomare led Virginia by shooting 2-under 70 to finish the first day of play in sixth place. Freshman Briana Mao and senior Lauren Greenlief are tied for 16th at 72. Elizabeth Brightwell is 25th at 73 and Portland Rosen is in 37th place at 74.

Alabama’s Jennifer Kirby leads the field at 6-under 66.

The second round of the event will start at 9 a.m. Saturday. The final round is scheduled for Sunday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
