CHARLOTTESVILLE – The fourth-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team remained unbeaten in ACC play as it downed Wake Forest 7-0 on Friday at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers (16-1, 6-0 ACC) won their ninth straight match, while the Demon Deacons fell to 9-11 overall, 0-5 in the conference.

The Cavaliers opened the match by winning the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. At No. 2, Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and Julen Uriguen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) completed the sweep with an 8-5 win over Danny Kreyman and Adam Lee.

Virginia swept all six singles matches in straight sets to post the shutout victory. Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and Uriguen increased the lead to 3-0 with wins at No. 5 and No. 6, dropping just two and three games respectively. Courtney clinched the win with his 6-3, 6-2 win over Lee at No. 4.

The top three spots in the lineup featured close matches where the Cavaliers were victorious. Domijan topped Kreyman 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 2 position to make the score 5-0. The win was Virginia’s 84th consecutive victory against ACC competition, extending its conference record.

“The guys fought hard today and did some good things on the court,” said head coach Brian Boland. “They came in well-prepared and did a good job of accomplishing the things we want them to do, which is getting better each and every day. We now get to have a good practice tomorrow before another challenge Sunday.”
