WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 12 Virginia women’s tennis team completed a sweep of a two-match weekend road-trip with a 6-1 win Sunday over Wake Forest at the Wake Forest Tennis Center. The Cavaliers improved to 14-4 overall, 5-2 in the ACC, with the victory, while the Demon Deacons fell to 3-13 overall, 0-7 in the conference.

Virginia opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) opened the match with an 8-2 win at No. 3 over Brigita Bercyte and Catherine Roach. At the No. 2 spot, Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) and Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) topped Rebecca Siegler and Karen Forman 8-5 to clinch the opening point. Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) completed the sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 1 over Kayla Duncan and Ryann Cutillo.

In singles, the Demon Deacons tied the match at 1-1 as Vierra retired from her match at No. 3 against Siegler. Molly O’Koniewski (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) gave Virginia the lead, 2-1, as she didn’t lose a game in her win at No. 6 over Roach. Peretz followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 over Forman and Fuccillo clinched the win with her 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Bercyte. Tomljanovic added a straight-set win at the No. 2 position, downing Cutillo 6-2, 6-4. In the final match on the courts, Hardenbergh rallied from losing the first set to defeat Duncan at No. 1 in a third-set match-tiebreaker to make the final score 6-1.

The Cavaliers conclude their home regular season schedule next week with a pair of matches at the Snyder Tennis Center. Virginia hosts Georgia Tech on Friday at 2 p.m. and Clemson on Saturday at 1 p.m. Admission is free to all home Virginia tennis matches.
