Cavalier Men's Tennis Downs Georgia Tech 6-1

ATLANTA – The second-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team remained unbeaten in ACC play as it downed No. 70 Georgia Tech 6-1 on Saturday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The Cavaliers (19-1, 9-0 ACC) won their 12th straight match, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 9-10 overall, 4-5 in the conference.

The Cavaliers swept all three doubles matches to open the contest with a 1-0 lead. Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.) and Drew Courtney (Clifton, Va.) posted an 8-5 win at No. 1 over Juan Spir and Juan Melian. Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and Steven Rooda (Amersfoort, The Netherlands) followed by downing Vikram Hundal and Sebastian Lopez 8-4 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3, Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.) completed the sweep with their 8-6 win over Dusan Miljevic and Eduardo Segura.

Domijan doubled the Cavalier lead early in singles as he cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Miljevic. Courtney downed Hundal 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 and Philippe Ourdshoorn (Adeldoorn, The Netherlands) followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 over Segura to seal the victory. Frank added a 6-0, 6-3 win over Melian at No. 3 and Shane downed Lopez 6-1, 7-5 at No. 5 to make the score 6-0. The Yellow Jackets’ lone point came at the top spot where Spir upset Jenkins 6-4, 7-5.

The win was Virginia’s 87th consecutive victory against ACC competition, extending its conference record.

The Cavaliers will conclude its regular season schedule next week with a pair of home matches. On Friday, Virginia hosts Florida State at 3 p.m. The Cavaliers conclude the regular season on Sunday when they host Miami at 11 a.m.
