CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball team (19-17) will entertain in-state foe Radford Wednesday in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at The Park. Live statistics for both games will be available online at VirginiaSports.com.

The Cavaliers are led by junior shortstop Alex Skinkis (La Palma, Calif.) with a .293 average at the plate. Sophomore Erica Cipolloni (Philadelphia, Pa.) paces Virginia with 21 runs to go along with her .289 average and classmate Marcy Bowdren (Fairfax Station, Va.) tallies a squad-best 29 hits and 22 RBI. In the circle, junior Melanie Mitchell (White Plains, Md.) posts a 1.50 ERA with 191 strikeouts in 140 innings of work.

Radford has won 13 of its last 15 games and plays at 10th-ranked Tennessee Tuesday night before traveling to Charlottesville. The Highlanders stand at 21-10 on the year.

Senior Nichole Beall leads Radford in every offensive category with a .375 average, 30 runs, 33 hits, nine home runs and 18 RBI. Beall is also a threat on the basepaths with a perfect 18-for-18 in stolen bases this season. Teammate Ryndee Ruch, a junior, contributes a .295 average, 26 hits and 11 RBI. Junior pitcher Jackie Jenkins has been RU’s ace in the circle with a 9-3 record and a 1.88 ERA.

The Cavaliers lead the all-time series with the Highlanders, 19-14. Last year at Radford, Virginia dropped both games of a doubleheader, 1-0 and 5-1.
