CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 15 Virginia women’s tennis team begins postseason play this week as it travels to Cary, N.C., for the 2012 ACC Tournament. The Cavaliers, the tournament’s No. 5 seed, open play with a first round match against Wake Forest at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Cary Tennis Center.

Virginia (16-6, 7-4 ACC) tied the school record with seven ACC regular season wins, matching the mark it set last year. If the Cavaliers defeat the Demon Deacons (3-17, 0-11 ACC), they would meet Clemson (15-8, 8-3 ACC) in a quarterfinal match on Friday at 9 a.m. The tournament runs through Sunday at the Cary Tennis Center.

The Cavaliers have lost in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals in each of the past eight seasons. Last year, Virginia was seeded fourth and lost to fifth-seeded Florida State 4-3 after receiving a first-round bye.

Live scoring for all of Virginia’s matches in the tournament will be available at VirginiaSports.com.
