CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior Melanie Mitchell (White Plains, Md.) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference co-pitcher of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.

It marks the second weekly award of the season for Mitchell, who also earned the honor on March 13, and is the fourth of her career.

Mitchell went 3-0 last week and picked up her first save of the year as Virginia swept a doubleheader with Liberty before taking the series with NC State, two games to one. She finished the four games on the week with a 0.32 ERA.

Mitchell tied her season high and was one off matching her career high with 15 strikeouts in the second game of the doubleheader with the Flames. On the weekend, she threw two complete games in two wins against the Wolfpack, including a 2-0 shutout in game one of the series. In 14 innings of work against NC State, she struck out 17 and did not walk a batter.

Mitchell shares the award with junior Hope Rush of Georgia Tech.

The Cavaliers are off for final examinations until the ACC Championship, which begins May 10 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
