Charlottesville, VA – Two current members of the Virginia men’s golf team and one former standout have advanced through the Local Qualifying stage to participate in the 2012 U.S. Open.

Senior Bruce Woodall (Eden, N.C.) and freshman Ji Soo Park (Clifton, Va.) and 2011 UVa graduate Will Collins (Salisbury, N.C.) have all qualified for Sectional Qualifying tournaments.

Woodall won the Local Qualifier in Greensboro, N.C. at the Greensboro Country Club with a score of 67. Park was second at Clustered Spires Golf Club in Frederick, Md., with a 69. Collins won the tournament held at River Landing in Wallace, N.C. with a 64.

Local Qualifying for the U.S. Open takes place at 109 sites between April 30 and May 17. Professional and amateur golfers with a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 1.4 are eligible to compete. Local Qualifiers consist of 18 holes of play and the number of available spots to advance to the Sectional Qualifiers is based on the number of entries at each local site.

Sectional Qualifying takes place at 13 sites with 11 in the United States.

The 2012 U.S. Open will take place June 11-17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
