Dear Incoming University of Virginia Students and Parents:

Welcome to the University of Virginia. It is my pleasure to welcome you to Charlottesville and the Grounds of the University on behalf of U.Va.’s Department of Athletics.

Virginia’s 25 varsity sports had another successful year of competition during the 2011-12 academic year. Through April, U.Va. won four Atlantic Coast Conference championships, and 20 Cavalier teams were ranked in the nation’s top 25 or finished in the top 25 in NCAA championship competition during their respective seasons. The tradition of strong support by the Virginia student body has helped all of our teams in their pursuit of championships. The student spirit group, ‘Hoo Crew, plays an integral role in supporting our teams and it’s free to join. I hope you’ll consider becoming a member when you arrive on Grounds. You can do so online at www.uvahoocrew.com.

I encourage you to attend athletics events as your schedule allows. They provide exciting entertainment and through your student activities fee there is no additional admission charge to attend home regular season athletics events. For every sport except men’s basketball, simply show your student ID when entering the event.

To attend Virginia home men’s basketball games, students must request a ticket in advance at uvashots.com. Once you request a ticket, you will be notified if you received a ticket by e-mail. Then you simply print your ticket through your online account. Your ticket will include an entry group number so you know exactly when you may enter John Paul Jones Arena. Ticket allocation and entry group times are based on the number of Sabre points you accumulate by attending men’s basketball games and other U.Va. sporting events. Be sure to activate your online SHOTS account once classes begin by logging onto uvashots.com.

We look forward to parents visiting Charlottesville and the University. Virginia athletics events provide a great opportunity to share the U.Va. experience with family and friends. Tickets to home athletics events can be purchased through the athletics ticket office by calling 1-800-542-UVA1 or online at VirginiaSports.com/tickets, subject to availability. Football 2012 season tickets are on sale now and feature reserved seat tickets for all seven home games. Season ticket prices range from $140-$285. Student guest tickets are set aside for home football and men’s basketball games to enable students’ parents and guests to sit with them in the student sections. Student guest tickets may be purchased on a game-by-game basis for every home football game at uvashots.com.

I look forward to seeing you on Grounds and at U.Va. athletics events throughout the 2012-13 academic year.

Go ‘Hoos!

Sincerely,

Craig Littlepage
Director of Athletics
