Briggs and Stanwick Headline UVa's Eight USILA All-American Selections

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Colin Briggs and Steele Stanwick headline eight Cavaliers who were named to the 2012 USILA All-America team as first team honorees, as announced by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

The honors for Briggs and Stanwick give UVa at least one first team All-American for a seventh-straight season.

Stanwick is the reigning Tewaaraton Trophy winner and a finalist again this season. The Baltimore, Md., native finished his season leading the nation with 51 assists and is No. 2 in the country with 5.0 points per game. His 269 career points are tops in the UVa annals and are tied for No. 18 all-time at the NCAA Division I level. Stanwick, the back-to-back ACC Player of the Year, also was a USILA first team All-American in 2011, becoming the 14th Cavalier to be a first team All-American at least twice in his career. Only Ken Clausen (2008-09-10) was a three-time honoree on the first team. Stanwick was a second team All-American in 2010.

Briggs earns his second career All-America nod from the USILA after being a second team member last season. Briggs had 22 goals and 14 assists in 2012 after also earning All-ACC honors for the second straight season.

Virginia placed Chris LaPierre and Matt Lovejoy on the second team. The honor for LaPierre is his second career after earning third team honors a year ago. The All-America nod for Lovejoy is the fifth-year senior’s first career honor.

Attackman Chris Bocklet, midfielder Rob Emery, defenseman Scott McWilliams and goalie Rob Fortunato round out UVa’s All-America selections on the honorable mention squad. The honor is Bocklet’s third career All-America nod, also being an honorable mention selection in 2010 and 2011. Emery, Fortunato and McWilliams earn their first career All-America accolade.
