Charlottesville, VA – The Golf Coaches Association of America announced today three members of the Virginia men’s golf squad have been named to the PING All-East Region team. That trio includes senior Ben Kohles (Cary, N.C.), sophomore Ben Rusch (Weinfelden, Switzerland) and freshman Denny McCarthy (Rockville, Md.).

It marks the third consecutive year Kohles has been named to the team. All three players earned All-ACC honors this season.

Heading into this week’s NCAA Championships Kohles led the Cavaliers and the ACC with a 70.94 stroke average

He led or shared the team lead in scoring in six of the 10 tournaments including a runner up finish at the NCAA Central Regional Championship. Kohles finished first at the Cleveland Palmetto Intercollegiate and the Schenkel Invitational to become the winningest golfer in UVa history with seven tournament titles.

McCarthy entered the NCAAs second on the team with a 72.09 stroke average. He was named the ACC’s Freshman of the Year. He posted five top-10 finishes and led or shared the team lead in scoring five times.

Rusch picked up the regional honor for the first time in his career. He won the 2012 ACC individual title, becoming the first Cavalier to claim the crown since Pete Arend in 1955. Rusch entered the NCAAs third on the team with a 72.55 stroke average.
