University of Virginia Post-Game Notes
• Virginia’s appearance in the 2012 NCAA Regional serves as the program’s 12th all-time tournament appearance, including its ninth straight.
• The Cavaliers are now 30-25 all-time in NCAA Tournament play and 24-19 under head coach Brian O’Connor.
• After playing for a total of 13 minutes on Friday morning, rain delayed the contest for 25 hours and 17 minutes.
• Virginia scored nine runs against Army and is now 37-7-1 when scoring at least four runs in a game this season.
• UVa starting pitcher Branden Kline made his ninth career appearance in the NCAA Tournament and his third career start in NCAA Tournament play. The start was his first in the NCAA Tournament since facing Oklahoma in the deciding game of the 2010 NCAA Super Regional.
• Kline went 5.2 innings, his longest career outing in the NCAA Tournament.
• With his lead-off walk to start the game, UVa’s Chris Taylor has been the leadoff hitter for the last 11 NCAA Tournament games for the Cavaliers and has reached base via a base hit, walk or hit-by-pitch to start five of those games.
• Stephen Bruno’s two-run single in the second inning served as the redshirt sophomore’s first career NCAA Tournament hit and RBI. After missing most of the 2011 season with an injury, Bruno entered the game with one career at bat in the NCAA Tournament, versus Oklahoma in the 2010 NCAA Super Regional when he was a true freshman.
• Branden Cogswell and Brandon Downes also recorded their first career NCAA Tournament hits.
• Army hit five Cavalier batters on Saturday afternoon. The five batters served as a tie for the second-most for a game on the season. UVa has now been hit 96 times this season, the most in the ACC.
