CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s Derek Fisher (Fr., Rexmont, Pa.) has been named to the second team of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s 2012 Freshman All-America Team, announced today by the NCBWA. This marks Fisher’s second Freshman All-America honor; he was named to Louisville Slugger’s squad last week.

Fisher is the second Cavalier to be named to the NCBWA Freshman All-America Team. Danny Hultzen earned a spot on the team in 2009.

Fisher hit .288 with seven home runs and 50 runs batted in during his rookie season. He hit eight triples to match Jarrett Parker’s UVa single-season record and also finished second on the team with 26 extra-base hits.

Fisher currently leads all ACC freshmen in triples, home runs, RBI and slugging (.507) this year.
