Charlottesville, VA – Virginia senior golfer Ben Kohles (Cary, N.C.) has been named a second-team All-American by Golfweek. It marks the third time in his career he has received All-America honors from the publication. Kohles was an honorable mention selection by Golfweek in 2010 and 2011.
A three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree, and the league’s player of the year in 2010 and 2011, Kohles recently helped the Cavaliers to a 22nd-place finish at the NCAA Championships. He played in the national championships three times during his career.
He led the team with a 71.23 stroke average in 2012, the second best average among all ACC players. He shot par or better in 20 of his 35 rounds during the season. This year he recorded six top-10 finishes to tie the UVa career mark with 23. Kohles led the team in scoring in five of eight spring tournaments.
Kohles was the runner up finisher at the 2012 NCAA Central Regional Championship. He finished first at the Cleveland Palmetto Intercollegiate and the Schenkel Invitational to become the winningest golfer in UVa history with seven tournament titles.
Kohles set the Virginia tournament scoring record this year when he won The Schenkel at 18-under 198. It was the second-lowest tournament score by any Division I golfer during the season. He became just the sixth golfer in ACC history to break 200 for a 54-hole event.
