CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s Derek Fisher (Fr., Rexmont, Pa.) has been selected to compete in the 2012 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby, set for July 3 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb. The derby is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET on July 3 and will air tape-delayed on CBS at 2 p.m. ET on July 7.

The first UVa player to compete in the event, Fisher is one eight contestants in the 2012 field. He will be joined by Daniel Aldrich (College of Charleston), LB Dantzler (South Carolina), Tyler Horan (Virginia Tech), Daniel Palka (Georgia Tech), Zach Stephens (Tennessee Tech), Mason Katz (LSU) and Aaron Judge (Fresno State). Aldrich is the derby’s reigning champion. Fisher is the lone freshman amongst the field of eight.

Fisher was named to the Louisville Slugger and NCBWA Freshman All-America teams. He batted .288 with seven home runs and 50 runs batted in during his rookie season. Fisher hit eight triples to match Jarrett Parker’s UVa single-season record and also finished second on the team with 26 extra-base hits.

Fisher led all ACC freshmen in triples, home runs, RBI and slugging (.507) this year.
