Neshanic Station, N.J. – Virginia senior women’s golfer Brittany Altomare (Shrewsbury, Mass.) advanced through the first round of match play competition at the 2012 United States Women’s Public Links Championship. Altomare defeated Gabi Oubre of Mobile, Ala., 3 & 2 to advance to the round of 32. Oubre will be a freshman at Mississippi State this fall.Altomare faces UCLA senior Tiffany Lua during Thursday’s match play at 8 a.m. The winner will advance to the round of 16, which is also scheduled for Thursday. Match play wraps up Saturday.

Last year Altomare advanced to the quarterfinals of match play at the WAPL. She was one of 12 players to receive an exemption into this year’s tournament.

This year’s tournament is taking place at Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Neshanic Station, N.J.
