Fahringer Competes in Javelin at U.S. Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore.—Virginia track and field senior Andy Fahringer (Whitehall, Pa.) competed in the men’s javelin in the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., Saturday afternoon (June 23).
Fahringer, who threw in the first flight, finished 16th overall with a mark of 70.83m (232’ 4”). After a foul on his first attempt, Fahringer hit a distance of 65.55m (215’ 0”) on his second throw before hitting 70.83m on his final effort.
Fahringer won the men’s javelin championship at the 2012 Penn Relays and was the runner-up at the ACC Championships in April. He holds the school record in the event with a mark of 75.19m (246’ 8”).
The U.S. Olympic Trials continue Sunday (June 24) through July 1. Former Cavalier Stephanie Garcia will compete in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase qualifying on Monday (June 25).
