BARCELONA, Spain—Virginia track and field rising sophomore Kyle King (Yorktown, Va.) represented the United States in the men’s 5,000 meters Saturday (July 14) at 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships at Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, Spain.

King, competing in international competition for the first time, finished 13th in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:19.97. When the leaders broke away at around the 1,500-meter mark, King was towards the back of the 23-man field before moving up in the final 1,000 meters. Muktar Edris of Ethiopia won the race in 13:38.95.

King finished fourth in the 5,000m at the ACC Championships in April and 15th at the NCAA East Preliminaries in May. He set the Virginia freshman record in the event (13:55.60) at the Colonial Relays in early April.
