ETON DORNEY, England—Former Cavalier rower Inge Janssen competed in the 2012 Olympic Games, representing the Netherlands in the women’s double sculls.

On Monday (July 30), Janssen finished fourth in her heat and seventh overall with partner Elisabeth Hogerwerf in a time of 7:00.10. Anna Watkins and Katherine Grainger of Great Britain won the heat in a time of 6:44.33, an Olympic record.

In the repechage on Tuesday, Janssen and Hogerwerf completed the course in 7:19.80, placing fifth, while in the B Final on Friday (Aug. 3), the duo crossed the line second in 7:29.57, to finish eighth overall in the event.

This is the third consecutive Summer Games in which UVa rowing has been represented. Janssen becomes the fifth former member of the Virginia rowing program to compete at the Olympic level, joining Melanie Kok (Canada, 2008), Katrin Reinert (Germany, 2008), Lindsay Shoop (United States, 2008) and Marlies Smulders (Netherlands, 2004 and 2008).
