LONDON–Former Cavalier Katya Bachrouche (Class of 2011) broke her own Lebanon national record in the women’s 800-meter freestyle Thursday (Aug. 2) at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Bachrouche, who’s previous best in the 800m free was 8:44.5, finished second in her heat and 19th overall in a time of 8:35.88 at the Aquatics Centre.

Bachrouche becomes the second Virginia swimmer to break a national record during the Olympiad. David Karasek (’12) broke the Swiss national record in the men’s 200-meter individual medley in a time of 2:01.35.
