Cleveland, Ohio – Virginia sophomore golfer Melissa Edmonson (Coral Gables, Fla.) is tied for 84th place following the first round of stroke play at the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. The tournament is taking place at the par-72, 6,386-yard The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio. Edmonson shot 5-over 77.
Edmonson, starting on the No. 10 hole, played her first 10 holes at even par before recording bogeys on holes two, three and four. She had pars on her next two holes before finishing bogey, birdie, bogey.
Tuesday she will tee off at 8:30 a.m. from the first hole. Lydia Ko of New Zealand leads the 156-player field at 6-under 66. The top 64 players will advance to match play that starts Wednesday.
