LONDON – Cavalier senior Paige Selenski scored her first Olympic goal, ripping a second-chance shot into the upper corner of the net in the first six minutes of the United States’ Olympic finale against Belgium. Belgium went on to net two goals to earn the 2-1 victory.

The American squad finished the Olympics in 12th place with a record of 1-5-0, with their lone victory coming against Argentina. Five of the six games, including Friday’s 11-12 Classification Match, were determined by one goal.

Selenski had a strong tournament. In addition to Friday’s goal, she also had a pair of assists in pool play contests. Cavalier teammate Michelle Vittese finished the tournament with a pair of shots, appearing in all six games.

Both players will head back from London and will arrive next week in Charlottesville to join their UVa teammates in preseason training.
