CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia Cavalier field hockey team will be playing a preseason exhibition game this Tuesday, Aug. 21, taking on the USA Under-21 National Team at 4 p.m. in College Park, Maryland. Live stats for the exhibition will not be available.

Tuesday’s exhibition tune-up against the US National Team is the first stop on the team’s season-opening road trip. After Tuesday’s exhibition, the Cavaliers will continue on to Pennsylvania where they will play their season-opener on Friday, Aug. 24, at 4 p.m. at Temple. After taking on Temple, the squad will head to Penn State to face the Nittany Lions on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 12 p.m.. Live stats for both of those official games will be available from the links posted on VirginiaSports.com.

The Cavaliers are returning 19 players from last year’s squad. All-Americans Michelle Vittese (R-Sr., Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Paige Selenski (R-Sr., Shavertown, Pa.) will be returning to the team after taking a year off to play for the US National team, including competing at the London Olympics. The Cavaliers were picked to finish third in the preseason ACC poll and had a conference-best four players earn preseason All-ACC honors. Vittese and Selenski were joined by fellow All-American Elly Buckley (Jr., Scarborough Perth, Australia) and sophomore goalkeeper Jenny Johnstone (Paisley, Scotland) in being named to the All-ACC team.

The home portion of the schedule begins on Wednesday, Aug. 29, when the Cavailers host Richmond in a 5 p.m. contest at Turf Field. Admission is free for all 2012 regular-season home games.
