CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s tennis program announced that Troy Porco has been elevated to the title of Associate Head Coach. Porco is entering his eighth season with the Cavaliers and has twice been named ITA regional assistant coach of the year.

Over the past seven years Porco and head coach Mark Guilbeau have teamed to take the program to new heights. Last year the Cavaliers matched a pair of records set a year earlier, tying the school record with 20 wins and reaching the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The team was ranked a school record No. 6 nationally during the season and the team had two NCAA Singles Championship participants for the second consecutive year.

“This is an extremely well-deserved title and position for Coach Porco,” said Guilbeau. “I thank the athletic department administration for supporting this and allowing us to recognize Troy in this way. Troy has put in an incredible amount of work during his seven years here at Virginia and has done so with the greatest of energy, loyalty and care. He does so much to help our players and this program. This is a great way to start the upcoming season and school year. We are both looking forward to having the team back and are excited about the opportunities ahead.”

The Cavaliers open the fall season with the UVa Fall Invitational, held Sept. 14-16 at the Snyder Tennis Center.
