CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia volleyball team heads to Richmond, Va., this weekend for the VCU/Third Degree Sportswear Invitational where UVa will face the host Rams on Friday (Sept. 7) at 7 p.m., and Georgetown and Appalachian State at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 8).

Last weekend, Virginia (3-3) went 2-1 at the Holiday Inn Jefferson Cup, defeating Lehigh, 3-0, and Delaware, 3-0, on Saturday (Sept. 1) after falling to Western Kentucky (Aug. 31), 3-1.

Senior Jessica O’Shoney (Austin, Texas) and junior Emily Rottman (Santa Barbara, Calif.) were named to the Holiday Inn Jefferson Cup All-Tournament team. O’Shoney earned 13 blocks and hit .264 over the three matches, while Rottman tallied 56 digs (5.6 dps).

The Rams are 6-1 on the season after defeating Middle Tennessee, 3-2, on Monday. Martina Samadan leads the squad with a .414 hitting percentage and 1.28 blocks per set, while averaging 2.14 kills per set.

UVa leads the all-time series with VCU, 20-12, and won the last meeting, 3-2, on Sept. 4, 2009 in Charlottesville.

The Hoyas come into the weekend with a 5-0 record after defeating William and Mary, Manhattan and Campbell at the Tribe Invitational in Williamburg, Va. Alex Johnson (4.06 kills per set) and Dani White (3.41 kps) led Georgetown, while White leads the team with a .336 hitting percentage and 1.35 blocks per set.

Virginia holds a 15-10 all-time series lead over Georgetown, and won the last meeting, 3-0, on Sept. 20, 2008 in Washington, D.C.

The Mountaineers are 1-6 on the season after going 1-2 at the Lipscomb Invitational where they fell to Lipscomb and Missouri, but defeated Houston. Dalton Tolliver leads ASU with 2.96 kills per set.

UVa is 3-0 all-time against Appalachian State, sweeping the last meeting, 3-0, on Sept. 13, 2008 in Charlottesville.

Up next, the Cavaliers host the Marriott Cavalier Classic and begin ACC play Friday as they host Virginia Tech Friday (Sept. 14) at 7 p.m., before playing Liberty Saturday (Sept. 15) at 7 p.m.
