2012-13 Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s basketball team announced Friday its 2012-13 non-conference schedule. Dates and opponents for the Cavaliers’ 13 non-conference games were released, but many tip-off times and television designations will not be known until the ACC regional broadcast partners complete their selections.

Four of Virginia’s non-conference games will be in the NIT Season Tip-Off. The Cavaliers open their home schedule on Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 as a host of one of four pods in the tournament. Delaware, Fairfield, and Penn join Virginia in the pod. There will be a doubleheader each day at John Paul Jones Arena with Virginia playing both of its games at 7 p.m. Virginia and Fairfield open play at 7 p.m. on Nov. 12 followed by the Delaware-Penn game. On Nov. 13, the winners and losers of the first round games will play each other. The first game on Nov. 13 will start at 4:30 p.m., and Virginia will play in the second game on Nov. 13 regardless of the outcome of its first game. One ticket will gain admission to both games on both days. The games on Nov. 12 and 13 are part of the season ticket package.

The team from the pod that wins two games will advance to Madison Square Garden in New York City to play in the tournament semifinals and finals on Nov. 21 and Nov. 23. If Virginia does not advance to Madison Square Garden, the Cavaliers will host four consolation games on Nov. 19 and 20, playing in two of those games. The format would be the same as the games on Nov. 12 and 13 with Virginia playing at 7 p.m. both days. These consolation games are not part of the season ticket package and tickets would be sold individually to these games.

The Cavaliers will play six additional home non-conference games at John Paul Jones Arena. Virginia will host Seattle (Nov. 17), Green Bay (Dec. 1), Tennessee (Dec. 5), Mississippi Valley State (Dec. 8), Morgan State (Dec. 19) and Wofford (Dec. 30).

Virginia will play two non-conference road games in 2012-13, opening the season at George Mason on Nov. 9 and visiting Wisconsin on Nov. 28 as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

The Cavaliers will also play Old Dominion in the inaugural Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic on Dec. 22 at the Richmond Coliseum.

Virginia’s 18-game ACC schedule was announced by the conference last month.

Overall, the Cavaliers will play at least eight games against 2012 NCAA Tournament teams and at least two games against teams that participated in the 2012 National Invitation Tournament.

Season tickets for the 2012-13 Virginia men’s basketball season are currently on sale.

All courtside seats and lower level seats in UVa’s John Paul Jones Arena must be purchased as part of a season ticket. Season tickets in the lower level cost $435 and require an annual contribution to the Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF) and a gift to the John Paul Jones Arena project. There are four upper level season ticket price options: $165, $215, $340 and $435. UVa faculty and staff may purchase up to four season tickets at a 20 percent discount. Virginia alumni who graduated between 2008-12 may purchase a season ticket in the upper level for $132. An annual contribution to VAF and a gift to the John Paul Jones Arena project may be required for some upper level seat locations. A three-month payment plan option is available for all season ticket purchases made by the Sept. 17 priority deadline.

Men’s basketball season ticket holders are eligible to take advantage of a host of benefits, including participation in a rewards program, the opportunity to purchase reserved parking and single-game tickets in advance of the public, and the opportunity to transfer or return tickets electronically. Season ticket holders will also be invited to preseason events with the team at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Virginia-Old Dominion game in the Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic game is part of a doubleheader that also includes George Mason playing Richmond. Requests are now being taken from current men’s basketball season ticket holders and Virginia Athletics Foundation donors for tickets to the Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic. Tickets to this event are valid for both match-ups and will be available to the public if ticket inventory remains beginning Oct. 29.

Fans can purchase tickets online at VirginiaSports.com and in-person at the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office in Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 1-800-542-UVA1 (8821).
