CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia baseball coach Brian O’Connor has announced UVa’s schedule for the 2012 fall season.

Virginia will challenge its young team with three fall exhibition games, all of which are open to the public and free of charge. The public’s first opportunity to see the Cavaliers during fall ball will come on Sept. 22 when Virginia will play the Ontario Blue Jays at 1 p.m. The Cavaliers will face Towson on Sept. 29; the game time for that contest will be announced once the UVa-Louisiana Tech football game time has been established. Virginia also will play Georgetown at 1 p.m. Oct. 21.

Per NCAA regulations, the Cavaliers’ fall exhibition games with Towson and Georgetown will count toward Virginia’s 56-game regular season for the 2013 season. The outcome of the games will not count toward the Cavaliers’ record in 2013 however. UVa now will play 54 regular-season games in the spring (because of rainouts, the Cavaliers played 53 regular-season contests last year).

Virginia’s annual intrasquad Orange and Blue World Series will be a 5-game series this season. It begins Oct. 3 and runs through Oct. 16. Admission is free of charge for all fall games.

The Cavaliers return 19 letterwinners, including five position starters, from their 2012 squad which went 39-19-1 and reached the NCAA tournament for the ninth-consecutive season. UVa also welcomes a large class of 15 freshmen to form a young nucleus to the team. Of the 36 players currently on the fall roster, 26 are underclassmen.
