CHARLOTTESVILLE. – The No. 6 Virginia field hockey team heads to Williamsburg, Va. to face undefeated William & Mary on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.

The Cavaliers (5-2) split their weekend series against top-25 teams, winning 2-1 over No. 20 Michigan State in double overtime and falling 3-2 to No. 14 Northeastern the next day. Despite the low-scoring outcomes, Virginia created plenty of offensive pressure in the weekend contests, outshooting the two opponents by a combined 42-17 and earning 25 penalty corners (to Northeastern and Michigan State’s nine combined).Overall this season, the Cavaliers are outshooting their opponents 140-58. They have also jumped on teams early with 70 first-half shots with their opponents logging 35.

Paige Selenski (R-Sr., Shavertown, Pa.) and Elly Buckley (Jr., Scarborough Perth, Australia) lead the team with 35 shots apiece. Carissa Vittese (Jr., Cherry Hill, N.J.) is third with 17.

The Cavaliers will try to get back in the win column by taking on an undefeated William & Mary (5-0) team. The Tribe shut out Radford, 4-0, on Friday, their second consecutive shutout. They also shut out Liberty, 3-0, the week before. The Tribe have outscored their opponents 23-5 this season.

The Cavaliers hold a 25-14-2 advantage in the all-time series and have won the last seven meetings.

The Cavaliers will be back home on Saturday, Sept. 15 when they host Miami (Ohio) at 11 a.m. on National Field Hockey Day. Admission is free for all 2012 regular season home games played at Turf Field.
