WEST WINDSOR, N.J.-Virginia rowing rising junior Carli Goldberg (Sarasota, Fla.) and graduated senior Cara Linnenkohl (Redmond, Wash.) won the women’s double sculls final Wednesday morning (June 27) at the U.S. Under-23 World Championship Trials on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.

With the win, the duo will represent the United States at the 2012 World Under-23 Rowing Championships in Trakai, Lithuania, July 11-15. Rising senior Susanne Grainger and former Cavalier Christine Roper (Class of 2011) were announced to Canada’s U23 squad last week.

“Carli and Cara had a great summer of 2011 in the single, double and quad at club nationals and the Canadian Henley,” Virginia head coach Kevin Sauer said. “It is great they are going to be able to represent the U.S. in Lithuania this summer.”

Goldberg was in the bow seat of the Cavaliers’ Varsity Eight that claimed the NCAA and ACC titles in 2012. The win at the national regatta clinched the UVa team its second NCAA Championship. After winning the conference crown, the V8 was named the ACC Crew of the Year.

Linnenkohl rowed with the Second Varsity Eight boat that finished third at the San Diego Crew Classic in 2012 and placed fifth at the 2011 NCAA Championships.
