TRAKAI, Lithuania-Virginia rowing rising senior Kristine O’Brien was in action as the 2012 World Under-23 Rowing Championships continued Friday (July 13) in Trakai, Lithuania.

O’Brien was in the stroke seat of the U.S. women’s eight that finished first in its heat in a time of 6:28.46. Great Britain led the race through the first 1,000 meters, but the Americans stormed ahead and were victorious by almost five seconds over Germany (6:33.41).

The regatta continues Saturday (July 14), highlighted by former Cavalier Christine Roper (Class of 2011) and rising senior Susanne Grainger competing for Canada in the women’s four grand final.
