Franklin, Tenn. – The 17th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is in fourth place following Friday’s first round of play at the Mason Rudolph Championship taking place at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. The Cavalier shot 12-over 300 and trail first place Texas by six shots.

Sophomore Briana Mao shares the tournament lead after shooting 1-under 71. Mao had five birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey during her round. Mao’s round equaled her best 18-hole score as a collegiate player. Tied with her for first place are Wake Forest’s Olafia Kristinsdottir and Michigan State’s Caroline Powers.

UVa’s Portland Rosen is in 14th place after shooting 74, Brittany Altomare is 37th at 77, Elizabeth Brightwell is 48th at 78 and Kaira Martin is 54th at 79. Alex Hershberger, playing as a non-scoring individual, is in 72nd place after shooting 82 in her collegiate debut.

The second round of the tournament is set for Saturday and the final round will be played Sunday. Live scoring is online at Golfstat.com.
