CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.–The Virginia volleyball team dropped a three-set match to Miami, 25-22, 25-19, 27-25, Friday night (Sept. 21) at Memorial Gymnasium.

Virginia (5-6, 0-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) was out hit by the Hurricanes, .296 to .130 and Miami led in blocks, 13.5-5.

Freshman Natalie Bausback (Carlsbad, Calif.) led the Cavaliers with a season-high .429 hitting percentage with 12 kills and no errors, while senior Jessica O’Shoney (Austin, Texas) had seven kills.

In a close first set tied at 22, the Hurricanes (10-2, 2-0 ACC) earned three points in a row, two off UVa errors, to win the set, 25-22.

Miami hit .414 and held Virginia to a .108 hitting percentage on the way to a 25-19 second set victory.

In the third set, the Hurricanes led 24-20, but Virginia fought back with a kill by O’Shoney and two straight blocks. An attack error tied the set at 24 and UVa took the lead on a sophomore Tori Janowski (Sterling, Va.) service ace, 25-24. The Hurricanes won the next three points, including a block and a kill to finish off the match, 27-25.

O’Shoney passed the 350 career block mark in the third set. She now has 351 and is tied for eighth all-time in UVa history.

Caitilin Donahoe led Miami with 27 assists while adding six kills with no errors.

The Cavaliers return to action Saturday (Sept. 22) when they host No. 15 Florida State at 7 p.m.
