Play Continues at UVa Ranked+1 Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Play continued Saturday at the UVa Ranked+1 Invitational, the first event of the fall at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers won two doubles titles and had three singles players advance to flight finals on the second day of action.
The day began with the final round of doubles. Virginia had teams in three of the four flight finals, coming away with two championships.
In Green Doubles, second-seeded Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and Harrison Richmond (Pawley’s Island, S.C.) topped top-seeded David Hopkins and Amogh Prabhakar of Wake Forest in the final.
Justin Shane (Falls Church, Va.) and Julen Uriguen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) won the title in the Sliver Doubles draw with a victory over Martin Sayer and Thomas Dehaen of Radford.
Saturday’s schedule featured two rounds of singles, the quarterfinals and semifinals of the main draw. Virginia had a player advance to the final of three of the four singles draws.
Jarmere Jenkins (College Park, Ga.), the top seed in Orange Singles, advanced to the final with a pair of straight-set wins. He topped Joe Salisbury of Memphis 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals before downing Bruno Abdelnour of Illinois in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-2. He will face Francisco Dias of George Washington in the final.
Domijan, the top seed in Blue Singles, reached the final with two wins. In his quarterfinal, he defeated Chris Cooprider of UNC Wilmington 6-2, 6-2. Later in the day, Domijan rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 semifinal win over Esben Hess-Olesen of North Carolina. He plays Thomas Hanzlik of Penn State in the final.
First-year Ryan Shane (Falls Church, Va.) continued his strong play in his first collegiate tournament, reaching the final of White Singles. The unseeded Cavalier newcomer upset top-seeded Jonas Lutjen of Ole Miss in the quarterfinals 6-1, 6-4. He followed that win with a 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-1 semifinal victory over Austin Powell of NC State. He plays second-seeded Rafael Aita of UNC Wilmington in the final.
Play on Sunday begins at 9 a.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center. Admission is free.
