CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia women’s lacrosse head coach Julie Myers announced that fourth-years Megan Dunleavy and Caroline McTiernan have been named captains for the 2013 season.

“The team has elected two great people and players to represent them as captains,” Myers said. “We are all excited for Megan and Caroline to lead by example and to help set the tone for success both on and off the field.”

Dunleavy, a defender from Fairfax Station, Va., is a two-time member of the All-ACC Academic team. Last season, she was second on the squad with 11 caused turnovers. She has started all of the Cavaliers’ games in both 2011 and 2012.

McTiernan, a midfielder from Garden City, N.Y., played in seven games last season, scoring four goals.

The Cavaliers will continue their fall training with a home scrimmage on Wednesday, Oct. 3, hosting James Madison at Turf Field at 7 p.m. The fall ball exhibition games are open to the public. The regular season opens up on Saturday, Feb. 16 when the team plays Loyola on the road in Baltimore, Md.
