Jason Laws Named UVa Director of Baseball Operations

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head baseball coach Brian O’Connor has announced the hiring of Jason Laws as the program’s Director of Baseball Operations. A Murray State graduate and former all-conference honoree, Laws arrives in Virginia following a year stint as an assistant coach at Arkansas State.
“I’m very grateful that Coach O’Connor has brought me on staff and given me the opportunity to work for one of the best programs in the country,” Laws said. “What Virginia Baseball has accomplished in recent years has been very special and I’m looking forward to being a part of it going forward.”
At Virginia, Laws will have a wide range of responsibilities, as he will be involved in every aspect of the program. He will serve as the team’s travel coordinator and also will assist with all aspects of game day operations and on-campus recruiting.
Laws was an assistant coach at Arkansas State last season. While at ASU he was in charge of the catchers, assisted with the hitters and field work and served as camp coordinator.
Laws was an assistant coach at South Dakota State in 2010-11 and earned his master’s degree in Sport and Recreation Studies from SDSU.
He served as an assistant coach in 2010 with the San Diego Waves summer team, which qualified for the NBC World Series. Laws was the head coach for the El Dorado Broadcos of the Jayhawk Summer League in 2011.
Laws earned his undergraduate degree from Murray State in 2010. He was a First-Team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection in 2009 after hitting .373 as the starting DH for the Racers. In 2010 he batted .314 with 14 doubles and four home runs while serving as the Murray State starting catcher.
In his Division I career, Laws batted .342 in 345 career at bats. A solid contact hitter, he had more extra base hits (34) and walks (37) than strikeouts (32) in his career.
Laws played the 2008 season at Palomar Junior College, where he was a Pacific Coast Conference Honorable Mention selection at catcher.
