LOS ANGELES – The Virginia women’s tennis team had one singles player and one doubles team advance from pre-qualifying to qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships. First-year Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) advanced in singles, while teaming with Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) to advance in doubles.

Elbaba continued her unbeaten start to the fall by winning her pre-qualifying finale over Millie Nichols of TCU 6-1, 6-0. She won all three of her matches in the draw in straight sets, losing just four games over those six sets.

Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) fell in the final round of pre-qualifying, dropping a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Kyle McPhillips of UCLA.

Fuccillo and Elbaba won a pair of matches on Sunday to advance from pre-qualifying. They topped Xepoleas and Schmidt of Purdue 8-3 in their first match of the day before blanking Flickinger and Burgmans of Auburn 8-0 in the final round of pre-qualifying.

Elbaba joins Fuccillo, Li Xi (Kunming, China) and Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) in the qualifying draw, which begins Tuesday. Elbaba and Fuccillo become the second Virginia team in qualifying doubles, along with the team of Xi and Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas).
