CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia senior guard Jontel Evans (Hampton, Va.) is expected to be out approximately six weeks after undergoing surgery on his right foot on Tuesday (Oct. 2).

Evans suffered foot pain during workouts with the men’s basketball team last week. It was recognized as a stress fracture that was best managed with surgical intervention.

Evans started all 32 games last season as the Cavaliers reached the NCAA Tournament. An ACC All-Defensive Team selection, he led the team with 124 assists and 50 steals, while averaging 7.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

Virginia opens the 2012-13 season on Nov. 9 at George Mason. The Cavaliers begin their home schedule on Nov. 12 when they host Fairfield to start play in the NIT Season Tip-Off.
