Virginia Hosts North Carolina and NC State This Weekend

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Virginia volleyball team hosts two Atlantic Coast Conference matches this weekend at Memorial Gymnasium. UVa takes on North Carolina on Friday (Oct. 12) at 7 p.m., before hosting NC State on Saturday (Oct. 13) at 7 p.m.
Fans who attend Saturday’s UVa football game against Maryland can bring their ticket stubs and receive free admission to Saturday night’s volleyball match against NC State (based on availability). Live statistics for both matches will be available through VirginiaSports.com.
Single-match general admission tickets are $5. Youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission tickets are $4 and group tickets (20 or more) are $3 per ticket. Fans can order tickets online at VirginiaSports.com and by phone through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office at 800-542-UVA1 (8821) or 434-924-UVA1 (8821). Tickets are also available at the gate beginning one hour prior to the start of each match.
Last weekend, Virginia (5-12, 0-7 ACC) lost two conference matchups, falling 3-0 at Clemson on Oct. 5, before dropping a three-set decision at Georgia Tech on Oct. 6.
Junior Emily Rottman had 20 digs in Friday’s loss at Clemson, while freshman Natalie Bausback had eight kills and 12 digs.
Sophomore Tori Janowski leads the Cavaliers with 171 kills, while Rottman leads the squad with 4.16 digs per set.
The Tar Heels are 13-4 on the season (4-3 ACC) after dropping two matches last weekend at Florida State and Miami. UNC has a balanced attack with five student-athletes averaging over two kills per set. Ece Taner leads the squad with 3.95 digs per set.
UNC leads the all-time series, 38-14, and won the last matchup, 3-1, on Nov. 19, 2011 in Charlottesville.
The Wolfpack are 15-3 on the year and are tied for third in the ACC with a 5-2 conference record after dropping two matches at Miami and Florida State, snapping a 10-match win streak. Megan Cyr directs the NC State offense, averaging 10.07 assists per set and 2.36 digs per set. Alston Kearns leads the squad with 3.09 digs per set.
Virginia leads the all-time series, 36-21, but NC State was victorious in the last meeting, 3-1, on Nov. 18, 2011 at Memorial Gymnasium.
Up next, the Cavaliers travel to James Madison for a non-conference match on Tuesday (Oct. 16) at 7 p.m., before hosting Duke and Wake Forest next weekend (Oct. 19-20). Both home matches will start at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium.
