Chapel Hill, N.C. – The 24th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is first place following the first 18 holes of play at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Virginia shot 2-under 286 to finish Friday’s play two strokes ahead of North Carolina and Baylor.

Virginia was led by senior All-American Brittany Altomare, who is in second place at 3-under 69. Altomare trails only North Carolina’s Hayley Davis, who shot 5-under 67 on her home course.

Right behind Altomare is Elizabeth Brightwell in third place. She shot 2-under 70 to match the low round in her career. Freshman Alex Hershberger is 17th after posting an opening score of 1-over 73. Nicole Agnello, who is back in the lineup for the first time since last March due to a wrist injury, is 20th at 74. Portland Rosen rounds out the UVa scoring in 53rd place at 77.

The second round of the tournament is set for Saturday and the final round will be played Sunday. UVa will start its second round at 10:30 a.m. while paired with Baylor and North Carolina. Live scoring is online at
