Charlottesville, Va. – Former Virginia men’s golfer Ben Kohles was presented his PGA Tour card Sunday following the final event of the 2012 Web.com tour in his birthplace of Dallas, Texas.

Kohles placed eighth on the Web.com tour’s earnings list with $303,977. The top 25 players on that list received their PGA Tour cards. Former Oklahoma State golfer Casey Wittenberg led the list with $433,453 of earnings in 24 starts.

Kohles won his first two Web.com tournaments and managed to finish in the top-10 on the earnings list despite starting just 10 tournaments. He is one of two 22-year-olds to advance to the PGA Tour. Darron Stiles, a 39-year-old pro and former player at Florida Southern, was the oldest player to pick up their tour card.

Kohles won the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Invitational on July 29 in Columbus, Ohio in his professional debut. He followed that up with a win at the Cox Classic in Omaha, Neb. He was fifth at the Mylan Classic and made the cut in eight of the 10 tournaments he played.

Kohles was a three-time All-American at Virginia and was named the ACC Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011. He won seven tournaments during his collegiate career and set the UVa scoring record with an 18-under 198 at The Schenkel in Statesboro, Ga., in 2012.

Kohles will join former Cavaliers Steve Marino and James Driscoll on the 2013 PGA Tour. Marino has won nearly $9 million as a professional. Due to a knee injury, he appeared in just six events in 2012.

Driscoll has earned $4.5 million as a professional and placed in the top 125 on the winnings list in 2012 to earn his tour card for 2013.

The 2013 PGA Tour starts Jan. 7 at the Sony Open in Honolulu, Hawaii.
